Dr Louise Irvine of the National Health Action Party said, "Any attack on hospitals and GPs to hold them to ransom is a serious issue. An attack of this scale affecting such a widespread area is a national emergency. As a doctor I can't bear the thought of the harm that may come to patients if A&E and GPs can't function properly. IT security is vital. Communications between clinicians is essential for safe and effective patient care.
I know my colleagues across the country will be pulling out all the stops to put this right and to carry on working even under these difficult conditions. I hope the Health Secretary will make a public statement at the earliest opportunity to reassure the public and NHS staff that the situation is under control."
